Birds #6 (2020)

Spring migration, which seemed to be ahead of last year’s schedule, appears to have slowed down and is closer to keeping pace with 2019.

A song sparrow is keeping close to the yard, and in the afternoon loves to trot across the lawn to pick sunflower seeds out of the grass. The girls and I saw a ruffed grouse last week on our walk to the mailbox, and got pretty close before it took off across the road. One day during a work video conference a bald eagle flew over the brook, and probably a couple of mergansers. I’ve seen an osprey do the same.

Other than that, lots of phoebes, a broad-winged hawk, various woodpeckers, and the usual year-rounders. Will be excited to hear the first warbler.
