Birds #1 (2020)

It hasn’t seemed to me to be an exceptionally cold or snowy winter, and I haven’t noticed any irruptive birds down from Canada yet. We put out black-oil sunflower seeds, and have had the usual suspects: goldfinches, blue jays, tufted titmice, black-capped chickadees, dark-eyed juncos, white-breasted nuthatches, a Carolina wren or two, downy woodpeckers, hairy woodpeckers, and once a red-bellied woodpecker. We’ve also had a white-throated sparrow mixing it up with the juncos underneath the feeder. I also put out a fruit and nut mix, but the birds do not seem to be interested in it at all. In a few weeks we should hear red-winged blackbirds returning, though not to our habitat.
