We are well past peak foliage now, but there is still plenty of color in the trees even if many are bare. Temperatures at night are getting down into the high 20s, and it’s time to put air in the tires again.
We haven’t had juncos in our yard yet that I’ve seen, but I saw a flock of them around the corner the other day. White-throated sparrows are in our woods, however, and a brown creeper, pileated woodpecker, and other assorted friends. I had a heavy dog on my lap this afternoon but if I hadn’t I would have gotten up to see if the large bird that landed on a basswood branch in the backyard was a hawk of some kind or just a robin. I think it was just a robin.
